I started Pasado! because my ate failed the Civil Service Exam by two points. Dalawang puntos. She had a review book from 2015 and a full-time job; wala siyang panahon at wala siyang updated na materials. I thought: I cannot review for her, pero kaya kong gawan siya ng tool.
Being a student was my advantage, hindi handicap. I had classmates to test with, professors to consult on pedagogy, at yung org network for spreading the word. My first fifty users were literally recruited sa tambayan. If you are a student reading this — your campus is a distribution channel na pinapangarap lang ng mga startup.
The hardest part was not the code. It was writing good exam questions. I spent more time with retired civil service reviewers and public school teachers than with my editor. Content is the moat; the app is just the delivery mechanism. Gets ko na ngayon kung bakit ang mga review center ay protective sa materials nila.
My biggest mistake: launching silently. I posted once sa isang group chat at umasa na kakalat mag-isa. It did not. The relaunch here on Pinoy App, with a proper story about my ate, is what actually worked. People do not share features; they share stories. Kaya ito, nagkukwento ako ulit.
And yes — my ate took the exam again last March. Pasado siya. That screenshot of her rating is framed sa dorm room ko, mas prominent pa sa dean's lister certificate ko. Priorities.
