Google Play Guide
Everything a PH maker needs to go from APK to published on Google Play.
Android rules the PH market, so Google Play is where most local makers launch first. The console has grown some extra hoops in recent years — here's how to clear them without losing momentum.
Register your account
- Pay the one-time USD 25 registration fee — no annual renewal, unlike Apple. One of the better deals in tech.
- Verify your identity with a valid ID and, for personal accounts, a device check. Have your documents ready before you start.
The closed testing requirement
New personal developer accounts must run a closed test with at least 12 testers opted in continuously for 14 days before they can apply for production access. Plan for this: recruit testers early (our testers board is a great source of kababayan volunteers), and keep them engaged for the full two weeks — testers who drop out reset your count.
Store listing assets
- App icon at 512×512, feature graphic at 1024×500, and at least two phone screenshots.
- A short description (80 characters) that sells the app on its own — most browsers never expand the full one.
- A complete Data Safety form. Play flags mismatches between your form and what the app actually does.
Pre-launch reports
Every upload triggers automated tests on real devices. Read the pre-launch report — it catches crashes on budget devices that are common in the PH market but easy to miss if you only test on a flagship phone.
Roll out in stages
- Start production at 5–10% rollout and watch crash rates and reviews before going wider.
- You can halt a staged rollout instantly if something breaks — a full-rollout bug is much harder to walk back.
